Installation Guide

AdventNet SwisSQL Sybase to SQL Server Edition is a Java-based migration environment. The product download is available in two versions, with JRE (Java Runtime Environment) and without JRE (Java Runtime Environment). Ensure that you satisfy the recommended System Requirements, before you can install the JRE or non-JRE version.

Installing the JRE Version

• Double-click on AdventNetSwisSQLSybaseToSQLServer_JRE.exe ( with JRE ) to start the installation.
• Welcome: The Installer prompts you with information of the product to be installed in your machine. Click Next to proceed

• AdventNet Software License Agreement : The Installer displays the license agreement. Based on the licensing terms you may accept or decline the product installation. Click No to exit installation
• If you agree with the License Agreement, click Yes to proceed with the installation.

  

• Choose the Destination Location : You can install the product in the default location (C:\AdventNet\SwisSQL\SybaseToSQLServer<Version_Number>)or you can browse to specify the location of product installation.

• Select Program Folder : By default, the product will be listed under
• In Windows XP: All Programs> AdventNet SwisSQL > SwisSQL Sybase To SQL Server (Version_Number)>
• In Windows 2000 /NT: Programs > AdventNet SwisSQL > SwisSQL Sybase To SQL Server (Version_Number)>

If you wish to follow your own way of organizing products, you can customize the Program Folder and specify your desired name. If you specify SQL Server Migration in the Program Folder, the product would be listed under SQL Server Migration. The path structure in the Windows menu will appear as listed below

All Programs> AdventNet SwisSQL >SQL Server Migration >SwisSQL Sybase To SQL Server (Version_Number)>

• Start Copying Files : The Installer finally prompts all the chosen Current Settings of the Destination Folder and the Program Folder for a final review before starting the installation. You can click Back to make changes or click Next to proceed with the installation to your local machine.

• Install Shield Wizard Complete : A message appears stating that the installation was successful, providing you with options to view the ReadMe file and have a quick link Desktop Icon.

• Click Finish to exit the installer

Installing the non- JRE Version

When you download the non-JRE version, we assume that you have JDK 1.4.1 and above or JRE 1.4.1 and above in your local machine. If you do not have JDK or JRE in your machine, you need to download and install JDK after the product installation. Installing the non-JRE version is very similar to installing the JRE version, except selecting the JRE path. During the installation, the Installer prompts you to specify the Java home or automatically searches for the Java in your local machine. When Java is not installed in your machine, the product installation continues to completion with a final recommendation to install Java to run the product.

• Double-click on AdventNetSwisSQLSybaseToSQLServer.exe ( without JRE ) to start the installation.

• Welcome:The Installer prompts you with information of the product to be installed in your machine. Click Next to proceed

• Select Java Runtime Environment :
  • You can browse and select the JDK directory (Eg: C:\Program Files\Java) or click Next to Auto Search for JDK / JRE directory in your machine. The Installer searches for the Java in your local machine and sets the path variable.
  • When the Installer is unable to find Java in your local machine, it still proceeds with the installation and completes it. Finally it prompts information of how to set your classpath.

    Note: If you do not have Java (Java Development Kit) installed in your machine, you can download the latest JDK from http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads/index.html.

• Click Next to start copying files to your local machine, this installation will take a few seconds to complete.

• Install Shield Wizard Complete : A message appears stating that the Installation was successful, providing you with options to view the ReadMe file and have a quick link Desktop Icon.

• Click Finish to exit the Installer

  Note : The final Summary screen will appear only when you Install the Non-JRE version without JDK on your local machine.

• Summary
  • Java is mandatory for running Sybase To SQL Server Edition, finally the installer will prompt that suitable JDK was not found and will recommend installing JDK 1.4.1 or above. you can download the latest JDK from http://java.sun.com/j2se/downloads/index.html and install it in your local machine. After installing JDK, you have to set path variable to get the product running.
  • Setting the JDK path: Edit the setenv.bat file present under the <Product Installed Directory\SwisSQL\SybaseToSQLServer<Version_Number>\bin> directory and set the path where Java is installed in your machine. When you edit the setenv.bat file, you need to make the change to the javahome variable

  
  Eg:set javahome=.C:\workdir\Java\jdk1.4.1

or

set javahome=.C:\workdir\Java\jre1.4.1
