Feb 19, 2003 - Vembu Technologies, a startup company focusing
on building innovative products and solutions for applications
working in a multiple RDBMS environment, announced today the
availability of its innovative product SwisSQL, which can
help applications seamlessly work with multiple relational
databases. Using a combination of Multi-Dialect SQL parser
and an SQL-Dialect conversion engine, Vembu SwisSQL can convert
any vendor's SQL dialect into any other vendor's SQL dialect.
Using SwisSQL, enterprise application developers can now seamlessly
port their application from one database to another, without
having to convert the SQL from one dialect to another. With
this announcement, Vembu is setting the stage for enriching
the Java paradigm, i.e. from "Write Once, Run Anywhere"
to "Write Once, Run Any Database".
When enterprises build new generation Web based applications
using J2EE middleware or implement an integrated Business
Process using BPM middleware, there is a need to make such
applications work in a multiple database environment. Migrating
an application from one database to another is not a trivial
task. The book "Oracle8i and Microsoft SQL Server 2000
Integration" by Stephen Chelack sums up the issue with
the comment, "The easiest way to migrate a database application
is not to have to migrate at all". And SwisSQL precisely
addresses this issue i.e., eliminate the need to migrate at
all.
"With an increasing need for enterprises to create or
integrate applications in a multi-vendor relational database
environment, Vembu SwisSQL solves one of the long felt needs
of application developers having to make their applications
work with multiple relational databases. SwisSQL addresses
a crucial dimension of this problem by making the SQL embedded
in applications portable across databases" said Mr. Sekar
Vembu, CEO of Vembu Technologies. "Also, SwisSQL is completely
standards based and requires no change to existing applications
using JDBC", added Mr. Vembu.
In addition to an API and a JDBC Wrapper interface, SwisSQL
also comes with a GUI console to help developers and DBAs
manually convert a given SQL to different dialects including
Oracle, MS-SQL Server, IBM DB2, Sybase, MySQL, PostgreSQL
and ANSI SQL. Vembu will release the SwisSQL product in two
flavors, one for developers who would like to embed SwisSQL
into their applications and the other for DBAs who want to
convert SQL to different dialects manually using the SwisSQL
console.
Vembu SwisSQL 1.0 Alpha is available for download and evaluation
from www.vembu.com. Vembu
offers free technical support for up to 45 days during the
evaluation. The SwisSQL 1.0 General Release is scheduled for
end of March 2003.
